On Tuesday 27th January, we were privileged to once again be invited to form part of the commemorations regarding Holocaust Memorial Day.
Our school choir, led by Mr Yorkstone, performed two songs during the ceremony, which took place at Leyland Civic Centre. They conducted themselves with the professionalism and respect that Balshaw's expects from all our students. Our choir opened and closed the ceremony with the songs 'Hallelujah' and 'Sing'.
Our Head Girl and Boy, Mischa Daggers and Joshua Burbidge, read out the sombre poem 'How can I forget?' by Alexander Kimel. A memorable and haunting piece, it strongly follows the service's theme of 'Bridging Generations', with the repeated refrain, 'I don't want to remember... but how can I forget?'
Other local schools including Walton-le-Dale High School, Penwortham Priory Academy, Lostock Hall Academy, St Mary's Catholic High School and Brownedge St Mary's High School also attended and took part in a poignant service to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.
The service was thought provoking and moving and we were grateful to take part in such an important event.
