It's been another successful few weeks for our Year 9 football squad who have won two more important fixtures. One a top of the table South Ribble League clash, and the other, another win in the Lancashire Schools Cup.

Vs Lostock Hall (South Ribble League)

As can be seen in the picture below the South Ribble league is becoming a two horse race between Balshaw's and Lostock Hall. Before our fixture both teams were unbeaten and both squads knew that the winner of this fixture would be in a very good position to go on and win the league at the end of the season.

The game started very positively for Lostock Hall and some shaky passing from Balshaws meant that Lostock deservedly found themselves 2 - 0 up at half time.

Changes were made at half time to the Balshaw's formation and we started to get ourselves back into the game. Two quick goals made the scores level and the tension from the crowd (capacity 25) was palpable! Balshaw's then took the lead with 10 minutes remaining for what was fantastic turnaround only for Lostock Hall to score a great free kick with two minutes remaining!

Balshaw's did not let their heads drop though and with one final push, and with almost the last kick of the game, Matthew James scored a screamer to win the game 4 - 3! - cue jubilant scenes!

Vs Fisher Moore (Lancashire Cup 4th round)

The fourth round cup fixture was not quite the spectacle of the game vs Lostock Hall as Balshaw's came out 10 - 1 winners. In what was quite a one sided game, the Balshaw's team impressed with their passing and control of the game, not really allowing the Fisher Moore side to get a foot in the game.

The Year 9 squad will now progress to the next round where they will play either Hodgson High School or Our Lady's Preston.
